Interpretations
With all their minimalist beauty and awe, the Cycladic statues remain a riddle. They could be mere samples of grave votives, symbols of femininity and fertility, or transcendental expressions of a spiritual journey. Every interpretation reflects the needs of humanity at a specific era, projecting priorities and quests that are meaningful at the time. We may never find out the original function of the figurines. Yet, we will keep evolving through our efforts to find ourselves in the basic lines of their forms. I would say their purpose is fulfilled.
